Sourav Ganguly Files Police Complaint Over Cyberbullying and Defamation
Former cricket captain seeks legal action against social media attacker
Kolkata Police have launched an investigation following a complaint from former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly, who has accused an individual of cyberbullying and defamation. The complaint was filed on Wednesday after Ganguly’s secretary sent an email to the Kolkata Police cyber section detailing the allegations.
The email, sent on Tuesday night, included a link to a video posted by an individual named Mrinmoy Das. According to Ganguly’s secretary, the video contains abusive language and derogatory remarks aimed at Ganguly, which they claim are damaging to his reputation. The email stated, “This individual has posted a video on a social media platform that targets Sourav Ganguly, using abusive language and making derogatory remarks, which are harmful to his reputation.”
The complaint describes the content of the video as an attack on Ganguly’s dignity and respect, and requests that the police take appropriate legal action against Das. The cyber department has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and is currently investigating the matter.
Sourav Ganguly, known for his significant contributions to Indian cricket, has played 113 Test matches and 311 One Day Internationals (ODIs), amassing over 21,000 international runs. He has also been a prominent figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for teams such as Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about online harassment and the need for robust measures to protect individuals from defamatory and abusive content on social media platforms.
