Special drive to curb adulteration in food by FDA

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) have undertaken a special drive to curb adulteration in food items such as Khoya, edible oil and jaggery as the festive period is approaching.

The press release issued by the department stated that the officials shall take stringent action against those who are not following the mandatory norms. It is mandatory for all shops selling sweets to display ‘Best before date’ for the loose sweets kept on sale.
Shivaji Desai, joint commissioner, FDA, Pune said, “The team is working on drawing samples of Khoya. This festive season, edible oil and jaggery are also under scanner.”

FDA’s main focus is to ensure that food quality is maintained and the hygiene and quality protocols are not compromised by the sellers / manufacturers.
Special drives as well as raids are being conducted across the city to curb the sale of sub standard, poor quality items.
Shivaji Desai informed that Bengali mithai should be consumed within 8-10 hours of manufacturing. If the Bengali (milk based) mithai turns sour or changes its colour do not consume. Buy from authorised and FDA registered shops only. Do not buy mawa from any roadside vendors or unauthorised shops.
