On the auspicious occasion of Indian Air Force Day, which falls on 8th October every year, the Deccan Education Society took flight by organizing a remarkable Aeromodelling Show at Ferguson College in Pune on Sunday, 8th October 2023.

Sadanand Kale, an Aircraft Enthusiast, and Co-Presenter of the Aeromodelling Show, shared his insights with Pune Pulse, stating, “8th October holds special significance as Indian Air Force Day. This event aims to kindle the passion for aviation and related fields among students. The journey toward a career in aviation, including the Indian Air Force, often begins with a spark of interest.

Today, the aviation industry is rapidly expanding, and a deep understanding of the science behind aircraft, helicopters, and fighter jets is crucial for anyone interested in this field. Therefore, the event at Ferguson College was designed to raise awareness about Aeromodelling among parents and children. It featured models of various flying objects and fighter jets currently in service with the Indian Air Force.”

The Deccan Education Society showcased an impressive array of radio-controlled airplanes during the aeromodelling show. Highlights included flying eagles, flying fish, flying saucers, twin biplanes, Cessna aircraft adorned with aerial wreaths and banners, and much more.

Air Marshall (Retd) Bhushan Gokhale, a former student of Ferguson College with a background in the Air Wing National Cadet Corps (NCC), commented on the significance of the day, saying, “8th October marks a momentous day as we celebrate 91 years of the Indian Air Force’s illustrious history. The Indian Air Force’s relentless dedication and hard work, dating back to its inception in 1932, played a pivotal role in our victory during the 1947-48 wars. Therefore, I urge everyone to recognize the Indian Air Force as an Armed Force rather than merely a Defense Force, owing to its bold and aggressive nature.”

The event drew a crowd of tens of thousands to the Fergusson College Ground, where 14 Indian Air Force fighter jets took center stage.

Spectators marveled at the skilled and breathtaking maneuvers of the MiG 21, Jaguar, Mirage 2000, MiG 29, Sukhoi 30, Tejas, and other aircraft currently in service with the Indian Air Force. The program was presented by aircraft enthusiast Sadanand Kale and his son, aeromodeler Atharva Kale.

This grand spectacle showcased the dedication, precision, and passion of those involved in aeromodelling, inspiring a new generation of aviation enthusiasts and commemorating the remarkable history of the Indian Air Force.
