State-of-the-art sports complex for Police to come up in Wanowrie: Fadnavis

Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the concluding ceremony of thr 71st All India Police Wrestling Cluster 2022 where he informed that a state-of- the-art sports complex for Police will be built soon and the proposal would be approved shortly.

The programme was attended by Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, sports minister for state Girish Mahajan, MLA Madhuri Misal, Bhimrao Tapkir, Mahesh Landage, Maharashtra State Director General of Police Rajneesh Sheth, IB New Delhi DIG R A Chandrashekhar, Anup Singh, SRPF DIG Chiranjeev Prasad and Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta.

Fadnavis said that the proposal to set up sports complex was announced in 2019 but did not pick up pace due to the pandemic. This sports complex is proposed to have athletic track, synthetic turf hockey stadium, synthetic turf football stadium, multi purpose hall, swimming pool, hostel, etc.

Police DIG Sheth in his speech said that the competition had seven sports categories including Wrestling, Kab additional, Boxing, Weight lifting while for the first time arm wrestling, power lifting, body building were also introduced.

Earlier, Maharashtra had organised this competition in 2010 and 2017. A total of 37 teams from 25 states, 5 union territories, 6 para military forces and railway police participated. Over 2000 men and 600 women took part.

Punjab won the first place, Indo Tibetan border police came second while Maharashtra stood at third position. Punjab police won 17 gold medals, 9 silver and 15 bronze, winning a total of 41 medals. Indo Tibetan Border Police won 15 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze medals while Mahara won 12 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals, winning a total 31 medals.
