Makar Sankranti is just a few months away, and preparations for the festival are already underway. Women have started making treats like sesame sweets, sesame ladoos, and chikkis for the celebration. They create a variety of dishes using sesame and jaggery during this time. One popular item is the sesame and jaggery paratha, which is a tasty and quick dish commonly made in many homes. Have you had a chance to try it?

Ingredients for Sesame Paratha (Tilache Poli):

  • – ½ cup sesame seeds
  • – 1 cup roasted peanuts
  • – 1 cup jaggery
  • – 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • – 1 cup grated dried coconut
  • – Nutmeg and cardamom powder

Method for Sesame Parathas (Tilache Poli):

Start by gathering all the ingredients: sesame seeds, peanuts, jaggery, grated coconut, nutmeg, and cardamom powder, and mix them well. Grind these ingredients together until they are finely blended in a mixer.

Next, knead the all-purpose flour until it becomes soft and smooth. You can cover the dough and let it rest for about half an hour before rolling out the flatbreads.

Take a small ball of dough and flatten it slightly. Add two tablespoons of the mixed filling from the grinder and reshape the ball. Roll the paratha out as much as possible. Once it’s evenly rolled, cook it on a hot griddle until it becomes crispy on both sides.

If you like, you can brush the paratha with oil or ghee. Your sesame paratha is now ready to enjoy, either with tea or on its own.
