Stop Maha Metro work at Shivajinagar : PMC Pune

Due to work encroaching on Ganeshkhind Road and causing inconvenience to both pedestrians and motorists, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has now ordered the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), which is carrying out the Pune Metro, to cease work on the Shivajinagar underground metro station entry and exit points.

It took the PMC until December 17 to serve the stop work notice to the Maha Metro after the PMC had warned the Maha Metro about this in July 2023 but the Maha Metro disregarded the warning. In the meantime, Maha Metro has nearly finished construction on Pune Metro lines 1 and 2, as well as the Shivajinagar underground metro station (entry and exit points).

A senior PMC official said that the PMC road department has written a letter asking for the Maha Metro work to be stopped after voicing objections to it at the Shimla Office Chowk in the direction of Shivajinagar metro station. As stated in Pune city’s development plan (DP), the PMC has suggested widening Ganeshkhind Road from its current 36 meters to 45 meters.

The PMC officials further added that the Maha Metro has built structures on 36-meter-wide roadways while ignoring the suggested plan. Additionally, a 30-meter road has been built by Maha Metro as the Shivajinagar metro station’s entry and exit point. As a result, there is now a bottleneck and the road is narrower.

A senior Maha Metro official said that they have been sent a letter by the PMC, to which they will respond.
