Structural audit of all bus shelters mandatory; warns Shivsena

A dilapidated bus shelter came crashing down on three passengers waiting for Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited bus at Pune Camp’s Westend theatre Bus stop today afternoon and injured them. A resident of Kondhwa, Devendra Shinde was severely injured in the incident alongwith with other two who sustained minor injuries.

Shivsena Ex MLA Mahadev Babar of Hadapsar constituency told Pune Pulse that it is high time that PMPML takes stern action against those officials who have failed to conduct structural audit of the bus shelters. Babar said, “We have demanded strict action against those who have failed to provide security to the passengers. Also, we have asked them to provide those injured with compensation. It is high time that all bus shelters must have necessary information of bus routes, bus numbers and its timings for the convenience of the commuters.”

A memorandum was submitted to Zende, PMPML in presence of Mahadev Babar, ex MLA, Tanaji Lonkar, ex Corporator, NIBM road, Prasad Babar, president, Aai Pratishthan, Rajendra Babar, Bharat Shendkar and others.

Pune Pulse contacted Dattatreya Zende of PMPML to know the further steps on checking of bus shelters in Pune he said, “We shall be conducting structural audit of all bus stops. The one which collapsed was built under the Build Operate and Transfer basis and known as Pune Pattern. This was a twenty year old bus shelter and under the control of Pune Cantonment Board as the advertisements run on these shelters were giving income to PCB. It was their responsibility to maintain them. But with today’s incidence now PMPML will check condition of each shelter.”
