IT industry luminary N.R. Narayana Murthy and his wife, Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty, were among the early voters on Friday, emphasizing the importance of voting in large numbers. Despite Narayana Murthy’s ill health, the couple made a concerted effort to exercise their right to vote.

Sudha Murty revealed, “Narayana Murthy was unwell and he was in the hospital. We got him discharged, and after voting, we are taking him home.” She emphasized the significance of voting, stating, “Matadana Shreshta Daana (voting is noble). Rather than sitting and talking, come out, vote, and express your opinion. More and more people should come out and vote.”

Addressing the youth directly, Sudha Murty appealed for active participation in the democratic process. “Senior citizens like me will be standing in the queue. Youth should also come out and vote,” she urged, particularly encouraging citizens of Bengaluru, known for its low turnout, to make their voices heard.

Echoing similar sentiments, Rahul Dravid, head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, stressed the importance of citizen engagement in democracy. “This is an opportunity for everyone to participate and take forward democracy. Good arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of elections…please come out and vote in large numbers,” he urged, especially calling upon the youth and first-time voters to make their mark.
