Supreme Court’s YouTube Channel Hacked, Services to Resume Soon
The official YouTube account of the Supreme Court was hacked on Friday, with the channel showing videos promoting XRP, a cryptocurrency developed by US-based Ripple Labs.
One video, titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION,” appeared blank but was live on the compromised channel. Several users reported seeing an advertisement when trying to access the channel, while others were redirected to a different YouTube page.
A senior Supreme Court official stated that while the exact details were unclear, it seemed the website had been “compromised.” The breach was detected on Friday morning, and the court’s IT team swiftly referred the matter to the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
In a notice posted on its website, the Supreme Court announced, “The YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India has been taken down. Services will resume shortly.”
Since September 2022, the Supreme Court has been live streaming hearings of Constitution Bench cases on its YouTube channel.
