Pune: A proposal has been put forward to construct a hostel for 1,000 students, with separate facilities for boys and girls. The construction is expected to be completed within a year and a half. Additionally, there are plans to establish a steam-based central kitchen to address the current food issues faced by students at the university.

Suresh Gosavi, the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), during an interaction with journalists organized by the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ) added, ‘’University is embarking on ambitious projects in celebration of its diamond jubilee year. Notably, the SPPU has entered into partnerships with renowned international universities, including Texas University, to offer post-doctoral fellowships to students. Furthermore, senior forest officers will have the opportunity to pursue postgraduate programs at SPPU through an agreement with the Union Ministry of Forest.’’

Furthermore, he added, “Multi-disciplinary schools will also be established at the Ahmednagar and Nashik sub-centres. Moreover, the SPPU aims to implement the new National Education Policy in all its affiliated colleges from the next academic year. Various graduate and postgraduate programs are expected to be developed by September 30. The university is actively advocating for the ‘Institute of Eminence’ status to be granted by the Central Government.”

Furthermore, the SPPU has proposed several projects, including the establishment of a Research Assistance Centre, the creation of a centralized system for procurement and tendering, the formation of a cell to support and provide equal opportunities to students with disabilities, the publication of a special issue commemorating the SPPU’s diamond jubilee, the establishment of an independent centre for developing Marathi syllabi, and the restoration of the Academic Calendar. In collaboration with the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences, the SPPU will also host the Maharashtra Science Congress, mirroring the annual Indian Science Congress Association event held nationwide.
