Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the “Muft Bijlee Scheme” with the aim of encouraging the citizens of India to install solar panels in every household.

The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the Interim Budget of 2024–2025.

The budget for the scheme is Rs 75,000 crore, with the aim of lighting up 1 crore households by providing 300 units of free electricity every month.”From substantive subsidies, which will be given directly to people’s bank accounts, to heavily confessional bank loans, the Central Government will ensure that there is no cost burden on the people,” said Modi.

The scheme will also lead to more income, lower power bills, and employment generation.

This is how you can apply for PM Surya Ghar’s Muft Bijlee Yojana:

Visit the site: https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

Register in the portal – 

Select your state.
Select your electricity distribution company.
Fill in your electricity consumer number.
Enter your email and mobile number.

Log In – 
Log in with your consumer number and mobile number.
Apply for rooftop solar as per the form.

Approval – 
Wait for your feasibility approval.
Get the plant installed by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM.

Apply for a Net Meter – 
Once installation is done, submit the lean details and apply for a net metre.

Commissioning certificate – 
A commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal after the installation of the net metre and inspection by DISCOM.

Final step – 
Once you get the commissioning report, submit the bank details and a cancelled check through the portal. After this, you will receive a subsidy from your bank within 30 days.
