A recent event involving a Swiggy Genie delivery partner in Hyderabad has caused a stir among customers after a laptop was reportedly stolen during a delivery. Nishitha Gudipudi, a civil engineer, shared the incident on LinkedIn, explaining that her husband had recently booked Swiggy Genie to transport his backpack, containing a laptop, from one office to another in the Madhapur area of the city.

The delivery partner collected the backpack with the laptop inside but allegedly switched off his phone during the journey. “He essentially stole the laptop, and at first, we thought it might have been partly our fault for using Genie to deliver the laptop. However, what happened next was what really shocked and frightened us,” Gudipudi wrote in her post.

When her husband contacted Swiggy’s customer support, they were unable to identify the delivery agent involved in their booking and even sent them two pictures, asking which one had collected the parcel. “When we reached out to Swiggy customer care, they couldn’t identify the person assigned to our booking. Instead, they sent us two photos and asked us which one had picked up the parcel,” the Hyderabad resident recounted.

Gudipudi and her husband suspected that Swiggy’s system might allow a person to register with an Aadhaar or PAN card and then let anyone use their login credentials. The situation became even more concerning when the couple contacted the delivery partner through WhatsApp, and he claimed that his friend had used his login credentials. Shortly after this, they received a message from the same number demanding ₹15,000 to have the laptop delivered via Rapido.

Gudipudi also posted screenshots of the WhatsApp exchange between her husband and the individual who demanded the money.

A LinkedIn user named Mayank V commented, “While traveling to my internship in Noida, a Rapido driver told me he had killed a man last year after an argument. When I paid using UPI, the name displayed was ‘Abdul Khan,’ which was different from the name registered on the ride. It was a terrifying experience.”

Another user, Thirupathi Naidu Veerthineni, wrote, “I regret the situation, but the Swiggy team needs to take action and resolve this. Otherwise, public trust, human ethics, and customer satisfaction will continue to decline.”

This incident highlights serious concerns about the safety and security of delivery services. The unauthorized use of accounts and the subsequent extortion attempt underscore the potential risks involved.
