In a heart-wrenching case, Additional Sessions Judge A. I. Perampalli has sentenced Santosh alias Nana Sudhakar Shilimkar to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of one lakh rupees for his role in the tragic suicide of his wife, Yogita Shilimkar. The court also said that if the fine is not paid, Santosh will face an additional year of imprisonment.

The distressing incident occurred on July 16, 2012, in Veerwadi, Bhor Taluka, where Yogita Shilimkar, aged 25, committed suicide by jumping into a well with her young daughter, Samruddhi. The act was reportedly driven by the severe harassment she endured from her husband.

Following the incident, Yogita’s family lodged a formal complaint, leading to Santosh’s arrest. A charge sheet was subsequently filed, and the case was brought to trial. Government advocate Pradeep Gehlot represented the prosecution, presenting a case supported by the testimonies of eight witnesses. Key testimonies from Yogita’s mother, brother, and the investigating officers were crucial in the court’s deliberation.

This case underscores the severe consequences of domestic harassment and the legal system’s role in seeking justice for victims.
