Reports surfaced after some Swiggy users were shown a Rs 10 fee during checkout, but they were eventually charged Rs 5 after a discount.

Bengaluru-based food delivery aggregator and grocery shopping unicorn Swiggy is testing a possible doubling of its platform fee from ₹5 to ₹10 per food order. Amid speculations of Swiggy planning to raise its platform fee to Rs 10, the company clarified that there are no imminent plans for a significant increase.

Swiggy mentioned that it occasionally runs small experiments to understand consumer preferences better, and the showcased fee was part of such an experiment. The company emphasized that there is no immediate plan for a substantial hike in platform fees.

Notably. Zomato, initially expressing no intention to introduce a platform fee, has followed Swiggy’s path, reflecting the challenges in the dynamic food delivery market.

As the industry evolves, analysts caution against implementing higher platform fees, highlighting customer sensitivity to pricing changes. The move emphasizes the competitive landscape and the strategic decisions companies make to navigate this evolving market.
