Taj Hotels’ data breached : 1.5 million customers data at risk

Pune: The data of about 1.5 million i.e. 15 lakh customers of the Taj Hotel was leaked by hackers involved in the recent data leak. Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which runs the Taj Group, said the company was investigating the leak.

As per information, in this data leak case, the hackers have demanded a ransom of $5,000 from the company. The leaked data included customer data, membership IDs, mobile numbers and other personal information.

A spokesperson of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), which manages the Taj Group, stated that they are aware of a person claiming to be in possession of the data of some customers. The data hacker claims to have the data from 2014 to 2020 and it has not been made public anywhere so far. The individual has also released a specimen to support his claim.

An IHCL spokesperson said the company is investigating the claim and the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is also aware of the data leak and is investigating the matter.
