Fares are set to increase in Pune and in Pimpri Chinchwad from August 1.

Commuters who use auto on  a regular basis will feel the pitch as they will have to pay Rs 2 extra for the first 1.5 kilometres. The charge which was earlier Rs 21 will become Rs 23 from August 1. After the first 1.5 kilometres, the fare will be Rs 15 per kilometre. This was earlier Rs 14 per km.

In the last 10 months, this was the third time auto fare was increased. On October 12, 2021, Pune RTO and district collector had agreed to increase rates to Rs 20 for the first 1.5km and Rs 13 for every kilometre thereafter.
It was rejected by the auto rickshaw associations then on November 22, 2021, the fare was increased to Rs 21 for the first 1.5km and Rs 14 for every kilometre thereafter.

In an official press release, Pune Regional Transport Officer said, “The hike is due to the rise in the cost of CNG. The decision has been taken after the meeting with the Auto rickshaw association. The increased rate will be applicable in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Baramati.”

The Auto rickshaws on night duty, i.e from 12 midnight to 5 pm, in Pune and PCMC will be allowed to charge 25% extra on actual meter rates.

In other places which are not within the PMC and PCMC limits, auto rickshaw drivers can charge 40% extra on the actual meter rate.

Autorickshaw drivers can recalibrate metres between August 1  and September 30, 2022, said the press release.
