The iconic SUV returns in a premium, future-ready avatar with multiple engine options, seven variants and segment-first technology.

Tata Motors has officially brought back one of India’s most cherished SUVs with the launch of the Tata Sierra 2025. Introduced at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 11.49 lakh, the new Sierra marks the return of a model that once defined urban lifestyle SUVs in the 1990s. Bookings will open on December 16, with customer deliveries beginning January 15, 2026.

The Sierra, first launched in 1991, became a cult favourite for its three-door design and distinctive glass canopy. The 2025 edition pays homage to that legacy while adopting a completely new premium mid-size SUV identity. It joins Tata’s expanding SUV portfolio alongside the Punch, Nexon, Curvv, Harrier and Safari.

Built on the new ARGOS platform engineered for global safety standards and equipped for future AWD capability, the Sierra 2025 brings a long list of segment-leading features. This includes a class-leading panoramic sunroof, Level 2+ ADAS with over 20 assistance features, standard six airbags, an electronic parking brake, and a car-to-car real-world crash test engineered specifically for the model.

The design retains the iconic Sierra glass silhouette but adds a modern floating-roof look with flush door handles, end-to-end LED DRLs and taillamps, and 19-inch alloys. Inside, the SUV introduces Tata’s Theatre Pro cabin setup, featuring three digital screens, a JBL 12-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system, a Sonic Shaft soundbar and broad soft-touch surfaces. Features such as ambient lighting, ventilated powered front seats, wireless charging and an auto-dimming IRVM underline the model’s premium positioning.

Tata has announced seven variants: Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure +, Accomplished and Accomplished +. Each variant aims to offer high-value packaging, with the company stating that even the base model is “feature-loaded” compared to rivals.

A wide selection of powertrains is available, including three 1.5-litre engines. The new Hyperion T-GDi turbo-petrol comes with an automatic torque converter, the Revotron naturally aspirated petrol is paired with manual and DCA options, and the Kryojet diesel offers both MT and AT choices. An electric Sierra variant is expected to debut next year.

The colour palette includes six options—Bengal Rouge, Coorg Clouds, Munnar Mist, Pristine White, Pure Grey and Andaman Adventure—each paired with a contrasting black roof. Tata claims the Sierra offers class-leading boot space and has pushed boundaries on design, including the slimmest headlamp setup currently seen in the industry.

The Sierra 2025 will compete in the crowded mid-size SUV space against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Mahindra Thar Roxx and Tata’s own Curvv. With a blend of nostalgia and new-age engineering, Tata Motors is positioning the new Sierra as a premium yet emotional product aimed at buyers seeking space, safety, craftsmanship and a strong design identity.
