Pune: For the past five years, Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN) has been organizing a traffic awareness drive on October 2 to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. Similarly, this year, the team has chosen the theme “Clean Air and Safe Roads’, which is supported by the residents and school children of nearby Erin.N.Nagarvala school.

The slogans and social messages are prepared by the children on placards, and the team has a scrap band named ‘BAND BAJA DE’ that twists Bollywood songs with social message lyrics and sings them to pass a positive message to the community. The drive will commence at 10 a.m. from RRC (Resource Recycling Center) on Central Avenue road in the PMC sports complex (next to the Ganpati Mandir) and will end at Adlabs Chowk.

The participants will take a walk along the footpath and have appealed to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to clear the footpath from encroached vendors and other obstructions on the footpath. Damaged or obstructed footpaths force pedestrians onto the road, exposing them to passing traffic, which is a safety hazard. The motto of safe roads implies the hazards of potholes, rash driving, unnecessary honking, and parking in a no-parking zone.

As per the information provided, the drive is carried out in conjunction with the traffic police and the PMC sanitation staff. The team has urged all the citizens of Pune to join in this drive on October 2 at 10 a.m.
