The accident occurred on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway around midnight. The bodies have been taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation is going on,”  Prayagraj Additional SP Vivek Chandra Yadav said.

This incident is part of a series of accidents affecting devotees traveling to and from the Maha Kumbh. The influx of pilgrims, combined with the heavy traffic on the highways leading to Prayagraj, has resulted in numerous road accidents.

On Tuesday, a tragic accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district claimed the lives of seven devotees from Andhra Pradesh when their tempo traveller crashed into a truck on the highway.

The day before, a couple from Agra lost their lives, and four others were injured in a similar incident involving their car and a truck as they were returning from the Maha Kumbh. Station House Officer Rudra Pratap Singh reported that the truck was confiscated and the driver was taken into custody.

Additionally, on the same day, a collision between a bus and a car in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, resulted in the death of a man from Rourkela, Odisha, while six others were injured. This series of accidents has heightened concerns regarding road safety and traffic management during the Maha Kumbh Mela.
