Ernst and Young (EY) India Chairperson Rajiv Memani has expressed regret over the company’s absence at the funeral of employee Anna Sebastian Perayil, who allegedly died due to excessive work pressure. In a LinkedIn post, Memani acknowledged the company’s failure to attend the funeral, calling it “alien to our culture,” and promised it would never happen again.

“I deeply regret that we missed being present at Anna’s funeral. This has never happened before and will never happen again,” Memani wrote, adding that he conveyed his condolences to the grieving family.

Perayil, who joined EY in March, passed away on July 20, with her mother, Anita Augustine, claiming that no company representative attended the funeral. Augustine’s open letter, accusing the company of contributing to her daughter’s death due to “work pressure,” went viral, sparking social media outrage.

Memani denied the allegations linking Perayil’s death to work stress but affirmed his commitment to fostering a healthy workplace and prioritizing employee well-being. Meanwhile, the Indian government has initiated an investigation into the work environment at EY following the tragic incident.
