PUNE: The Chatuhshrungi police have registered a case against a person involved in online share trading for allegedly defrauding a 47-year-old resident of Balewadi. The victim was duped of ₹22.54 lakh between May 5 and June 13, 2024.

According to the police, the accused lured the victim through a WhatsApp group that promised high returns on investments in share trading. The victim made multiple payments, expecting significant profits. However, after realizing that he had been scammed, he approached the authorities. A case was officially registered on Thursday.

The police have filed charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66D of the Information Technology (IT) Act, which deals with cheating through online fraud. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to trace the accused responsible for the fraudulent activities.

Online financial scams have seen a significant rise, and police are urging the public to be cautious while making investments through unverified online platforms.
