Three-Day Toll Waiver On Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Know Why.
Mumbai–Pune Expressway Closure: What Commuters Need to Know Before Travelling
Pune, March 24, 2026: Devotees attending the annual Lonavala Ekvira Aai Yatra will benefit from a three-day toll waiver on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, officials announced. The religious procession, celebrated by the Agri-Koli community, will take place from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
The toll waiver has been facilitated by NCP MP Suresh Mhatre, popularly known as Balya Mama. Devotees must carry a consent letter issued by his office to avail the toll exemption while traveling to the pilgrimage.
Speaking about the initiative, Mhatre said he personally met with toll authorities to request the exemption. “They have agreed to grant the toll waiver, provided pilgrims carry a letter from my office. Safety during travel is our top priority,” he stated.
Authorities have also implemented strict arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra. The Maval administration, under Tahsildar Vikram Deshmukh, along with rural police teams, will monitor the procession using CCTV cameras and maintain tight security.
To manage large crowds, flower and garland stalls have been moved back, ensuring clear pathways for devotees. Heavy vehicles will be banned from the Karla Fata to Gadhpaitha route during the yatra, and the use of firecrackers on the hill has been strictly prohibited. Traffic on the old Mumbai-Pune highway will also be restricted to ensure the procession passes safely.
This three-day toll exemption and extensive safety arrangements aim to facilitate a smooth and secure pilgrimage for thousands of devotees attending the Lonavala Ekvira Aai Yatra.
