Pune | February 27, 2026 – A tragic road accident on the Pune–Solapur Highway claimed the lives of three people, including a young mother and her two-year-old son, after a car rammed into a stationary tempo that had stopped for a tyre puncture repair.
The accident occurred on Thursday evening around 5 pm near Dalaj No. 2 village in Indapur. According to police, an Eicher tempo, which had developed a puncture, was parked dangerously on the roadside when an Eco car crashed into it from behind, leading to a devastating impact.
Victims Identified
Those killed on the spot were:
Aditi Amar Hatekar (25)
Her son Jai Amar Hatekar (2)
Sakhubai Ishwar Gajge (60)
(All residents of Sangola, Solapur district)
The collision left the car completely mangled, scattering household items and the child’s toys across the road, creating a heart-wrenching scene for bystanders and rescuers.
Injured in the Accident
The Eco car driver, Kabirdas Ishwar Gajge (50), a resident of Pats in Daund taluka, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. His wife Swati Gajge (34) and their 10-month-old daughter Samruddhi Gajge suffered minor injuries.
Police Statement
Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Mahangade stated that the tempo was halted in a hazardous position due to the puncture, and the car driver failed to notice it in time, resulting in the rear-end collision. Police personnel helped rescue the injured from the wreckage.
A case was being registered late night at the Bhigwan Police Station. The incident has renewed demands for stricter enforcement to ensure immediate removal of broken-down and stationary vehicles from highways to prevent such fatal accidents.
Authorities have appealed to motorists to follow safety protocols and to highway agencies to improve warning signage and emergency response systems on busy national highways.
