Traders Urge Pune Police To Allow 24x7 Business Operations, Submit Memorandum
Pune, April 30, 2026: In response to ongoing complaints from the business community, the BJP Traders Wing in Pune has stepped up its demand for uninterrupted business operations across the city. Led by its city president Mahesh Gupta, a delegation submitted a memorandum to Amitesh Kumar, urging authorities to ensure that traders are allowed to operate legally for 24 hours without restrictions.
The memorandum highlights provisions under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation) Act, 2017 and a state government circular dated October 1, 2025, which permit registered and compliant establishments to remain open round the clock. However, the traders’ body raised concerns that in several areas, local authorities are imposing unnecessary restrictions on such legally operating businesses.

The representation also cited directions from the Bombay High Court, stating that such restrictions are inconsistent with existing legal provisions.
Key Demands Raised:
- No obstruction to legally licensed establishments operating 24×7
- Immediate halt to verbal or forceful directives from police authorities
- Uniform and lawful implementation of rules across Pune
- Appointment of a dedicated nodal officer to address traders’ grievances
Speaking on the issue, Mahesh Gupta said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently promoted the concept of improving the ease of doing business in the country. He stressed that traders must be provided a supportive and lawful environment to operate efficiently.
He further added that the trading community forms the backbone of the economy, and enabling their growth directly contributes to overall development. The BJP Traders Wing reiterated its commitment to safeguarding traders’ rights and ensuring they can conduct business in a fear-free environment.
