Traffic Diversions in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad for VIP Visit on February 22; Key Routes Affected

Pune, February 21, 2025: Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Police have announced traffic diversions near Balewadi on February 22 due to the inauguration of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Phase 2.0 at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex. The event will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Amol Zende (Pune Traffic Branch) and Bapu Bangar (Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Branch) have urged citizens to cooperate with the temporary changes, which will be in effect throughout the day.
Traffic Diversions under Pune Police Jurisdiction:
- Baner Road Diversion: Vehicles traveling from Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk to Radha Chowk via Baner Road should turn left at Ganraj Chowk, use the underpass near Kia Showroom or Nanaware Underpass, and then proceed to their destination.
- Highway to Baner Route: Vehicles coming from the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway (Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass) towards Baner Road should take a left at Balewadi Jakat Naka, proceed via Balewadi High Street to Ganraj Chowk, and then continue their journey.
- Alternate Route for Mumbai-Bound Traffic: Vehicles heading towards Hinjawadi, Wakad, Lonavala, or Mumbai from Pune should avoid Baner Road from University Chowk and instead take Pashan Road via Chandani Chowk.
Traffic Diversions under Pimpri Chinchwad Police Jurisdiction:
- Heavy Vehicle Restrictions at Radha Chowk:
- Heavy vehicles from Chande-Nande must turn left at Godrej Circle, pass through Maan and Hinjawadi, and continue.
- Heavy vehicles from Balewadi Jakat Naka and Baner should take a right at Radha Chowk, proceeding via Wakad Naka or Hinjawadi.
- Heavy vehicles from Sus Bridge (National Highway) should avoid Radha Chowk (Nyati Showroom) and instead take Wakad Naka and Hinjawadi.
- Road Closure Near Balewadi Stadium:
- The road in front of Balewadi Stadium’s Main Gate (from Mhalunge Police Post to Puneri Sweet at Shitlai Devi Chowk) will be closed for all vehicles.
- Alternate Routes:
- Vehicles from Chande, Nande, and Mhalunge heading to Radha Chowk should turn right at Puneri Sweet Square, passing via Mhalunge Police Post Chowk.
- Vehicles traveling from Radha Chowk to Chande-Nande and Mhalunge villages should take a left at Mhalunge Police Post and proceed accordingly.
Possible Traffic Congestion:
Due to these diversions, congestion is expected on Pashan Road, Baner Road, Hinjawadi, Wakad, and internal routes being used as alternatives. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and follow traffic advisories for a smoother commute.
