Traffic Woes At Viman Nagar In Pune: Urgent Action Required On Signals, Parking, And Congestion Issues
Viman Nagar residents, led by Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor of the Viman Nagar Citizens Forum, have raised concerns over increasing traffic chaos in the area, urging immediate action by traffic authorities.
Key issues include non-functional traffic signals at key locations such as Gangapuram Chowk and Datta Mandir Chowk during peak hours. Sukhrani emphasized that signals must be operational to prevent traffic jams. Additionally, a new traffic signal is requested at Dorabjee Chowk, now a busy junction after recent construction.
In areas lacking traffic signals, Sukhrani proposed deploying two police-trained wardens during peak hours (9-11 am and 6-9 pm) to manage traffic at several congested junctions, including Lunkad Goldcoast, Symbiosis School, and Kailash Market Chowk.
Parking violations have also worsened congestion. The forum suggests making streets P1/P2 parking zones, restricting parking to one side only. Notices should be issued to housing societies and businesses, mandating parking within premises and not on public roads. A stricter stance is called for against unauthorized parking by private taxis, tempos, and food stalls.
The Citizens Forum urged traffic police and the RTO to monitor violations, impose fines, and tow offending vehicles to ensure smoother traffic flow.
