Avani and Sharon’s wedding turns into a real-life Vivah moment after a road accident hours before the ceremony.

In a moment that felt straight out of a film, a couple in Kerala went ahead with their wedding inside the emergency ward of a Kochi hospital after the bride met with a serious road accident just hours earlier.

Avani, a schoolteacher from Alappuzha, was travelling with her family around 3 am to get her bridal makeup done when their car lost control and crashed into a tree. She suffered severe spinal injuries. Locals rushed the group to Kottayam Medical College Hospital, from where she was shifted to VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi for specialised treatment.

The wedding was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon in Alappuzha. When Sharon, an assistant professor, reached the hospital and learnt of Avani’s condition, both families expressed a strong desire to conduct the ceremony at the pre-decided auspicious time, known locally as the muhurtam.

Hospital authorities consulted the neurosurgery team and approved the request. Between 12.15 pm and 12.30 pm, in the presence of doctors, nurses and close relatives, Sharon tied the thaali while Avani lay on a stretcher in the emergency ward. The ceremony was brief, emotional, and conducted without interrupting medical services.

Guests who had already gathered at the original wedding venue in Alappuzha were served the planned wedding meal, as families ensured that arrangements continued smoothly.

Doctors confirmed that Avani’s condition is stable but she will undergo spinal surgery soon. Sharon and Avani’s courage, and the families’ unwavering commitment, have drawn widespread praise online many calling it a true example of “love in sickness and in health”.

This inspiring story shows that even in the most unexpected and challenging circumstances, love can choose its own stage, its own moment, and its own form of celebration.
