India’s two-wheeler market is witnessing a new wave of innovation, and TVS Motor Company is stepping up to lead the charge. Hot on the heels of Bajaj’s headline-making Freedom 125 the world’s first CNG motorcycle TVS is preparing to launch the first-ever CNG-powered scooter, the TVS Jupiter CNG.

This development isn’t just another product update; it’s a potential game-changer, particularly for cost-conscious, eco-aware urban commuters. First showcased as a concept at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, the Jupiter CNG has been generating buzz and now, new details suggest it’s almost ready to hit the streets.

Familiar Face, New Heart

The Jupiter CNG retains the trusted design language of the petrol-powered Jupiter 125, but introduces a bi-fuel powertrain that allows users to switch between CNG and petrol. This flexibility translates to significant savings and reduced emissions.

The scooter features a 1.4 kg CNG tank beneath the seat, equipped with a conveniently located refueling nozzle. A 2-litre petrol tank is integrated into the floorboard, with its filler cap positioned on the front apron. The compromise? No under-seat storage a trade-off for those prioritizing range over space.

Powertrain & Performance

At its core is a 124.8cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, delivering 7.2 bhp and 9.4 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT automatic transmission. While its top speed of around 30.5 km/h is tailored for city rides, its efficiency is where it truly shines.

TVS claims a remarkable 84 km per kg on CNG. Combined with the petrol reserve, the total range soars to 226 km, making it an ideal companion for daily commutes.

Features & Practicality

Despite the space reconfiguration, TVS has packed the Jupiter CNG with everyday conveniences, including:

  • LED headlamp
  • USB charging port
  • Semi-digital instrument console
  • Side-stand indicator
  • All-in-one lock system
  • Dual-fuel-compatible switchgear
  • Spacious floorboard for bags or groceries

It continues to use TVS’s trusted suspension setup and 12-inch wheels, ensuring a comfortable, city-friendly ride.

Expected Pricing & Launch Timeline

Though TVS has not announced an official price, the Jupiter CNG is expected to carry a premium of ₹15,000–₹20,000 over the petrol version, placing it in the ₹95,000–₹1,00,000 range (ex-showroom). An initial batch of 1,000 units will be released to gauge market response.

While an earlier launch was speculated for June 2025, the rollout has been deferred. The updated petrol Jupiter 125 will launch first, with the CNG variant expected by December 2025 or early 2026.

Petrol Variant Also Getting an Upgrade

TVS is also refreshing its petrol Jupiter 125, with teasers hinting at new body colors like light bronze, a beige seat, and possibly an upgraded instrument cluster. Known for its practicality including under-seat storage, ample legroom, and front fuel filler the Jupiter 125 remains a go-to choice for urban riders.

With the Jupiter CNG, TVS is taking a bold step into the clean mobility segment. As scooters remain one of the most widely used vehicles in India, introducing CNG technology here could mark a significant shift in urban transport trends.

For riders looking to lower running costs without sacrificing comfort, the TVS Jupiter CNG presents a compelling proposition. It may ask you to give up a little storage but in return, it promises cleaner emissions, impressive range, and major savings at the pump.
