Pune: Two instances concerning the dishonour of cheques amounting to Rs. 1.42 crore and Rs. 3.86 crore were resolved during the National Lok Adalat conducted on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bandra witnessed the filing of two cases under the Negotiable Instrument Act in 2020. These cases were initiated by Beacon Trusteeship against Aditri Estate Developers Pvt. Ltd due to dishonoured cheques in a commercial transaction. However, on Saturday, the cases were resolved by a panel led by Magistrate Mahesh Saraf and comprising advocate Sanjay Ashtekar.

The disputes between the parties were resolved previously at the Bombay High Court through a commercial arbitration litigation. Subsequently, the parties reached a mutually agreeable settlement before the ‘Lok Nyayalaya’ on Saturday. These cases were deemed exceptional by the panel due to their utilization of an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, namely arbitration proceedings and Lok Adalat.

The panel observed that the parties swiftly resolved their disagreement by employing an alternative dispute resolution method, rather than engaging in a prolonged legal battle. Additionally, the panel directed the registry to reimburse the complainant for the court fees that were paid.
