Nagpur : In order to tackle the menace of unauthorized construction taking place, Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant said that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will be directed to stop unauthorized construction as soon as it happens while making sure that no new unauthorized constructions occur.

It is worthy to note that in 2017, 11 villages were included in the jurisdiction of the PMC. Similarly, in 2021, 23 more villages were included. Samant referred to the rampant illegal construction happening in these areas during his speech.

Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre made an interesting comment that losses occur if the constructions are stopped midway.  Reacting to this, Samant said that there is PMC’s Town Planning Authority for the 11 included villages in PMC limits in 2017. Also, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been appointed as special planning authority for the 23 villages included in the PMC limits in 2021.  He further said that the preparation of development plans for these villages, granting construction permission and taking action against unauthorized constructions etc are done through the planning authority.

Samant further added that according to the provisions of the Maharashtra Regional & Town Planning Act, unauthorized constructions before December 31, 2015, were to be regulated as ‘temporary structures’ under the Development Control Rules. Accordingly, 104 unauthorized constructions have been regulated by the PMC.

Samant further said that according to the Maharashtra Gunthewari Development Act, the opportunity to regularize the unauthorized constructions and vacant plots done before December 31, 2020, by Gunthewari method has been made available to the citizens of Pune city till December 31, 2023. According to the said act, 24 constructions have been regulated by the PMC from the year 2021.

Similarly, he informed that provision is available for small plot holders for construction as per the approved Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) of the government.
