UK woman alleges abuse at Osho’s Pune ashram; followers deny claim
A British woman has accused Osho’s Pune Ashram of severe sexual abuse, claiming she was raped over 50 times during the 1970s at various Osho communes worldwide. The woman, known as Prem Sargam, will have her story featured in an upcoming documentary Children of Cult. In an interview, she stated that the abuse began when she was just six years old, with rape occurring at age 12. She also pointed out mysterious practices within the ashram.
Her claims have sparked widespread debate, with Osho’s close associates vehemently denying the accusations. The Pune Ashram refuted the allegations, saying that the British woman was lying, emphasizing that children were not allowed inside the Koregaon Park ashram.
A spokesperson for Osho International Meditation Resort, Ma Amrit Sadhana, said the current management has collectively decided not to respond further, stating the allegations are unrelated to them.
A former member of the ashram also dismissed the claims as baseless and financially motivated. He argued that children were only permitted inside the ashram for lunch and were otherwise restricted. He suggested that certain Christian groups are trying to defame Osho and his teachings.
Sargam initially shared her painful experience on Facebook three years ago, describing how children were separated from their parents and expected to participate in sexual activities with adult men at the commune.
