With the announcement of the NCP’s list of 38 candidates for the assembly elections, seven candidates from Pune district have been included. In the city, two current MLAs from the NCP represent the Hadapsar and Vadgaon Sheri constituencies. Thus, the norm is that the party will re-nominate its sitting MLA. According to this norm, the current MLA Chetan Tupe has received his ticket for the Hadapsar constituency, despite opposition from party officials. However, now that Tupe’s candidacy has been announced, the internal conflict must be resolved, and the party must work unitedly to ensure his victory.
It is predicted that there will be a major contest between the NCP and its own faction in the Vadgaon Sheri constituency. But with Ajit Pawar’s group yet to announce a candidate, Tingre’s anxiety has risen. On the other hand, the BJP has not yet declared its candidate for the Khadakwasla constituency, and discussions are rife that current MLA Bhimrao Tapkir will be denied a ticket. He recently met with party leaders but was told to proceed according to the final decision of the party, with no definitive assurances regarding his candidacy. As a result, there is speculation within the BJP that Tapkir will not receive a ticket this time.
Given this situation, there is a strong possibility that the BJP and NCP will exchange candidates between the Khadakwasla and Vadgaon Sheri constituencies. This leaves Sunil Tingre’s future uncertain, while the hopes of former MLA Jagdish Mulik as a potential BJP candidate are rising. Mulik has begun preparations for the assembly elections, and his WhatsApp status ‘Fight to Win’ is generating significant discussion in the Vadgaon Sheri constituency.
While candidates have been finalized in some constituencies, confusion still reigns regarding the important Vadgaon Sheri constituency.
