Undri Resident Alleges Blinkit Delivered Fungus-Infected Bread; Raises Food Safety Concerns
Pune, May 16, 2026: A resident from Undri has raised serious concerns over food safety after allegedly receiving stale, expired and fungus-infected pav packets through a grocery order placed on quick-commerce platform Blinkit.
According to the customer, the order was placed on the evening of May 15 for a family gathering. The delivery reportedly included four packets of pav, out of which two packets were found to be stale and allegedly past their expiry date. The expiry date ended on May 13 itself. The customer claimed that visible fungus had developed on the bread, leaving the family shocked and disappointed moments before serving the food. The customer had ordered pav from The Health Factory – Zero Maida – Super protein Bombay Pav.
The resident immediately contacted Blinkit customer support and reported the issue. While the platform allegedly offered a refund for the affected products, the customer expressed dissatisfaction with the response, stating that merely refunding the amount was not enough considering the potential health risks involved.
The customer has demanded strict action against the dark store from where the products were dispatched. He questioned how expired food items could pass through packaging and quality checks without being noticed by store staff or delivery partners.
The resident further stated that he intends to escalate the matter to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the Food and Drug Administration and the Pune Municipal Corporation seeking a detailed inquiry into the incident.
The episode has once again sparked concerns among consumers regarding food quality checks and hygiene standards maintained by quick-commerce dark stores handling perishable products. Citizens have questioned whether adequate systems are in place to verify expiry dates before items are packed and delivered to customers.
Residents have also called for stricter monitoring and penalties against stores found supplying expired or unsafe food products, warning that such negligence could pose serious health hazards to families and children.
