Pune Metro Expansion: DPR Proposed For Kharadi To Pune International Airport And Katraj To Hinjawadi
PUNE: In the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, a provision of ₹699.13 crore has been allocated for the Pune Metro project, along with ₹230 crore for the Mula-Mutha river rejuvenation project.
The funds for Pune Metro will support the proposed extension routes, including PCMC to Nigdi, Swargate to Katraj, and Vanaz to Chandni Chowk. The metro has already completed two corridors: PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi.
A Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official stated, “Since the Mula-Mutha riverfront project is supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), funds are disbursed to the Central government based on the project’s progress. The Central government covers the interest and releases the funds to Pune accordingly.”
Pune MPs Murlidhar Mohol and Medha Kulkarni welcomed the budget, highlighting tax relief for the middle class, with income up to ₹12 lakh now tax-free.
