Urban Development Dept To Investigate Deaths Of 36 Animals At PCMC Zoo

Pune : Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the decision to investigate the death of 36 animals in Nisargakavi Bahinabai Chaudhary Zoo at Sambhajinagar of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation through the Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department. The Chief Minister has instructed the Municipal Corporation to transfer this zoo to the State Forest Development Corporation.

As per further information, in this regard, member Ashwini Jagtap raised the issue during the question and answer hour. The Chief Minister was speaking while replying to her.

The plan for renovation and beautification of this zoo has been approved by the Central Zoo Authority. Accordingly, the zoo has been closed since 2017 for work. The zoo has been opened as some work has to be done as per the rules of the Central Zoo Authority.

Meanwhile, a total of 36 animals have died in the period from 2017 to 2023. The death of the said animals was natural and the authorities have been informed through the municipal corporation after postmortem through the government hospital at Aundh. The Chief Minister said that the death of 36 animals is a serious matter and it will be investigated through the Urban Development Department.

The Chief Minister also directed that the Municipal Corporation should transfer the zoo to the State Forest Development Corporation. Opposition Leader Vijay Wadettiwar, Member Nana Patole, Yogesh Sagar participated in the discussion.
