Social media buzz around Varun Dhawan has taken an unexpected turn after a video showing the actor doing pull-ups inside a Mumbai Metro coach went viral. While the clip was shared in the celebratory mood following the success of his film Border 2, it didn’t amuse the Mumbai Metro authorities, who publicly called out the actor and reminded commuters about responsible travel.

On Monday, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) addressed the incident through their official X (formerly Twitter) handle. Referring directly to the video where Varun is seen performing pull-ups using the grab handles inside the metro coach, the authorities clarified that such actions are not just unsafe but also legally questionable.

In their post, MMMOCL stated, “This video should have come with a disclaimer like the ones in your action movies, Varun Dhawan- Do Not Try This On Maha Mumbai Metro. We get it, it is cool to hang out with friends inside our metros, but those grab handles are not for hanging. Acts like these are punishable under the sections relating to causing nuisance and/or damage to property given in the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, attracting penalties and even imprisonment depending on the gravity of the offence. So folks, hang out, but don’t hang in there. Travel responsibly on Maha Mumbai Metro.”

The metro authority further highlighted that such behaviour could fall under offences related to nuisance or damage to public property, which may invite penalties or even jail time depending on the seriousness of the violation.

The incident also triggered reactions from social media users, with many supporting the metro’s stance. One user commented, “This is Public property that we pay taxes with our hard earned money. Pls whatever entertainment that U do pls limit to your own earned money”, echoing concerns about the misuse of public infrastructure by public figures.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Varun Dhawan has been enjoying the massive response to Border 2. The actor recently shared his gratitude with fans on Instagram, posting a picture of co-stars Ahan Shetty and Sunny Deol taking a selfie with an enthusiastic crowd. The image captured hundreds of fans lighting up the moment with their phone flashes, underlining the film’s strong reception.

Calling Border 2 a significant milestone in his career, Varun thanked both the filmmakers for trusting him with the role and the audience for embracing his performance. The film, which hit theatres on January 23, draws inspiration from the true events of the 1971 India-Pakistan War. It showcases the combined strength of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, highlighting their unity during wartime. The movie also marks Sunny Deol’s return in uniform and features Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh in key roles alongside Varun Dhawan.
