Khopoli, December 25, 2024 – A chemical-laden ethanol tanker toppled and caught fire early Wednesday morning after exiting the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The mishap occurred at around 5:50 am near Shilphata in Khopoli. The tanker, which was carrying ethanol, was en route to a liquor manufacturing company in the area when it lost control and overturned.

According to the Khopoli police station, the tanker was fully engulfed in flames, and the chemical spill caused the fire to spread along a stretch of about 20-25 feet along the road. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape the vehicle immediately after the accident, avoiding any injuries.

The road was promptly cordoned off for a one-kilometer radius to ensure public safety. Firefighters from the Khopoli Fire Brigade, along with personnel from JSW, responded to the scene and worked tirelessly for about three hours to control and extinguish the blaze.
