Pune: The residents of Viman Nagar have expressed their concerns regarding the placement of advertising billboards on trees in the vicinity.

It has been observed that trees are sometimes subjected to being nailed to display advertisements, resulting in harm to the trees.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Raja Subramani, a resident, expressed his frustration stating, ” It is disheartening to witness businesses stapling notices on trees without realizing the harm it causes. I hope the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) imposes heavy penalties to deter them from defacing trees.”

Another resident, Madhav Patil added, “PMC should fine individuals who display advertisements by harming trees. The process of nailing advertisements to trees causes significant harm to trees. The veins are destroyed, leading to a reduction in the oxygen generation capacity of the trees.”

Qaneez Sukhrani, a Pune City activist, further emphasized the need to cease the practice of nailing advertisements on trees, as it poses significant harm to them. Trees, being living creatures, should not be harmed in this manner. PMC should take action in this case and impose heavy penalties on those responsible. It is worth noting that PMC itself nailed notices of tree felling on Ganeshkhind road on trees, and they should be mindful of such actions.

While speaking to Pune Pulse Ravi Khandare, Tree Officer stated, “We impose fines on individuals caught nailing advertisements on trees. We make an effort to contact them using the provided phone numbers on the posters and impose fines accordingly. If we are unable to establish contact, an FIR is registered against them. The nails embedded in trees are removed by the Garden Department once informed.”
