In a recent incident in Punjab, an unmanned train caused panic as it reached a speed of 100 km/h, without a loco pilot on board, was halted near Unchi Bassi in Punjab’s Dasuya after it had covered around 80 kilometres.

The situation unfolded when the train, consisting of 53 wagons, started moving at high speed after the driver reportedly forgot to engage the handbrake before disembarking at the Pathankot station.

The train was on its way from Jammu to Punjab.Fortunately, there were no reported casualties in the incident.

A video capturing the train’s rapid movement circulated on social media, prompting concerns about safety and railway protocols.

Authorities quickly closed all railway crossings along the route to vehicular traffic. Various measures were employed to slow down the train and prevent any potential accidents. Despite the lack of casualties, the incident raised questions about safety procedures and the need for additional precautions to avert similar situations in the future.

Officials are actively investigating the incident to determine the exact cause and identify any safety lapses. The divisional traffic manager of Jammu confirmed that a comprehensive inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the unmanned train’s rapid movement.

The natural downward slope towards Pathankot in Punjab is being considered as a contributing factor to the incident.
