Wakad News : Management committee from Wakad’s Shonest Towers resigns, as residents refuse to remove encroachments
Wakad: In a recent incident at Shonest Towers in Wakad, the Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer of the housing society resigned from their positions after the society members refused to remove stands for keeping pots outside their balconies. This practice is not permissible as per the bylaws of the society as it poses a threat of culpable homicide in case of a fatal accident.
The incident occurred due to illegal encroachments by a few shops in the society, as well as structural changes made by many residents. Additionally, grills made to keep plants and pots were also deemed unsafe and a potential hazard.
“We requested the society members to remove the encroachments but they were not ready, hence we resigned,” said Tejaswini Dhomse, the former secretary of Shonet Towers.
She added, “Currently, we have submitted the letter to the District Deputy Registrar (DDR) office and they have given us 7 days’ time. After that they may appoint an administrator who will look after the society until the new elections are held.”
“If a society body gives resignation, then an administrator is provided to the housing society by DDR for one year, who looks after housekeeping, water supply, and general society issues. However, after the administrator is appointed, elections are held for the formation of a new body,” informed Prashant Raut of DDR office.
Speaking on the issue of encroachments in housing societies, Sunil Bhagwani of D Ward Anti – Encroachment cell, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation said, “Usually, society members have to take approval from the society committee to make any structural changes. The society’s body has to check whether the member had asked for permission. When we receive complaints from society members, we not only take action against a single person for encroachment but remove all the illegal encroachments.”
Residents of Shonest Towers expressed concern over the issue of encroachments, with Santosh Kulkarni stating, “After the society body gives resignation, they have to look after until the new body gets elected. Although, resignation has been submitted by the body. No one should flout the norms.”
“In such instances the society has to inform about this to DDR office and get the administrator to run the society. Whereas, Chairman, secretaries can submit their resignation anytime as its a voluntary work,” Suhas Patwardhan, Chairman of Pune District Cooperative Housing Societies and Apartments Federation.
