In a gripping turn of events, a man who was kidnapped in Rajasthan and held hostage in Himachal Pradesh was rescued by the Jaipur police on his birthday. The dramatic operation, which took place at a secluded hotel in Himachal, was captured in a now-viral video showing Jaipur police officers breaking into the room and announcing, “Anuj, get up son… this is Jaipur Police. Relax, we are here for you.”

The victim, Anuj, had been abducted on August 18 while visiting Nahargarh Hill in Jaipur with a friend. The kidnappers, mistaking him for someone from a wealthy background due to his attire, forcibly took him away, binding and gagging him before assaulting his friend and abandoning him on the roadside.

Following the abduction, the Jaipur police, led by Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph, initially struggled to locate Anuj. Despite deploying drones for a search and forming multiple teams, they faced challenges due to the kidnappers’ constant movement. The perpetrators contacted Anuj’s family, demanding a ransom of Rs 20 lakh. With the family unable to immediately provide the funds, police traced the kidnappers’ phone numbers and began tracking their locations.

The kidnappers eventually directed the family to deliver the ransom on the last carriage of the Kalka-Shimla Express train. Police had prepared for this scenario, placing teams along the train’s route. They intercepted the suspects as they attempted to drop the ransom bag near Dharampur railway station. Following the arrest of an initial suspect, further investigations led to the capture of additional accomplices and the discovery of the hotel where Anuj was held.

The five individuals arrested include Virendra Singh, Vinod, Amit Kumar, Jitendra Bhandari, and Jamuna Sarkar. Virendra Singh, identified as the mastermind, is a software engineer who resorted to kidnapping after facing business setbacks. Singh and his team, equipped with various tools and using walkie-talkies for communication, had meticulously planned the abduction.

The successful rescue operation has garnered widespread praise, highlighting the Jaipur police’s effective response and strategic planning in overcoming a challenging situation.
