Wanawadi's Revamped Gardens Emerge as Vibrant Community Hubs and Fitness Hotspots
Gardens across Pune continue to serve as much-needed green escapes for citizens seeking a break from urban chaos. With over 200 gardens developed by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the city’s landscape has steadily transformed into a healthier and more vibrant environment.
Wanawadi, in particular, is home to three key public green spaces-Late Vitthalrao Shivarkar Udyan, Late Ashok Kamthe Udyan, and Jaisingrao Sasane Udyan. These parks not only enhance the area’s charm but also provide essential breathing spaces for residents. Over the years, these gardens have been upgraded with modern facilities such as open-air gyms, acupressure walkways, children’s play equipment, pagodas, reading zones, and well-maintained lawn areas.

Former Corporator (2017) stated that upgrading Wanawadi’s gardens had been a long- standing dream. This vision led to the introduction of open gymnasiums at Vitthalrao Shivarkar Udyan an initiative welcomed by residents of all ages. The garden also features a dedicated acupressure walkway and separate open gyms for men and women, developed on land that had remained unused for several years.

Another major project undertaken was the beautification of Jaisingrao Sasane Garden on BT Kawade Road during her tenure of Corporator. The highlight of the upgrade is the Bhul Bhulaiya-a maze-like attraction introduced for the first time in a Pune Municipal Corporation garden. The redevelopment is now complete, with a grand pagoda capable of hosting up to 200 people for community and fitness activities. The space has quickly become a preferred destination for group workouts and social gatherings.
