Wanowrie : Open space near Ganga Satellite transformed into a small garden

For the last many years, the open space near Ganga Satellite leading towards Pune Cantonment Board was filled with filth. People used to dump waste over the space even if it was cleaned by the Pune Municipal Corporation. The incessant rains in 2019 brought more filth and waste on the banks of Bhairoba Nala which passes through this road. 
Even after repeated complaints nothing changed. It was then the chairman Of Ganga Satellite ,Mr Mishra along with a few residents residents decided to approach Col Suresh Patil of Green Thumb organisation to transform this patch. The actual work on the began on September 11, 2021 alongwith extensive support from local Corporator Kalinda Punde, Dhanraj Ghogare and Vulcan Technology the work of cleaning up the waste, levelling the spot, planting Bamboo and other trees for beautification was done. 

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Anupam Bir, a resident of Ganga Satellite said, “We were tired of the filth. Everyday for the last one decade we were complaining about the waste and PMC would clean up. But we wanted a permanent solution. Our society resident, Col Amit Rai is a part of Green Thumb and has transformed the part of nullah near Empress Garden. We sought his help in it transforming this place into a beautiful small garden and a walkway. Under the guidance of Col (Retd) Suresh Patil, Col (Retd) Sathe, Col Amit Rai and volunteers of Green Thumb the work began .With full support from Ganga Satellite as in posting guards morning and evening,Resident group formed to help monitor the work going on coordinating with Prashant Jagtap, Kalinda Punde, Dhanraj Ghogre for sending tractors ,trucks   For.picking up the debris. Along with this 6 flood lights added on the road to have the place illuminated at night as we have seen people coming to dump garbage at that spot.”

Maithili Manakawad of Wanawadi Residents Forum said, “I was wonderfully surprised to see the transformation of that horrible stretch of Nalaside land from Ganga Satellite to bridge, which now promises to become a beautiful nallah garden. I am so glad we have the right person, Col Suresh Patil of Green Thumb, who with his years of expertise of turning such Nallahs into biodiversity parks, has been entrusted the task beautification and greening of this patch.”

Rajesh Mishra, chairman of Ganga Satellite informed that the initiative has been supported under the CSR initiative of Vulcan Technology and great support from the residents of Ganga Satellite.

Kalinda Punde, local Corporator of Wanowrie said, “This spot had become a dumping spot. Even after cleaning up the spot people used to dump waste. We have seen the work of Green Thumb near Empress Garden and the beautiful transformation they have made of the nullah. The residents too thought that Green Thumb would be able to transform this spot too. We are hoping that residents can now breathe clean air and avoid spoiling the place which is beautified. We have done our bit, now the residents should play their part of maintaining cleanliness and its beauty.”
