In a distressing case highlighting yet another instance of cruelty against a spouse, Wanowrie police have taken legal action against a lawyer who stands accused of subjecting his wife to mental and physical abuse. The 34-year-old victim has come forward with a grievous complaint, alleging not only domestic violence but also financial deceit and manipulation by the accused and his family members.

According to the victim’s account, she claims that the accused lawyer, along with his mother and sister, all residents of Wadgaon Sheri, deceived her by unlawfully obtaining her property and valuable gold jewelry. The victim further alleges that she was coerced into shouldering the burden of repaying a loan for the accused’s SUV car. The lawyer’s father is also a practicing legal professional in the city.

The complainant, who resides in Lulla Nagar, divulged that her connection with the lawyer dates back to 2018 when they became acquainted during her mother’s hospitalization. Over time, their relationship deepened, and the victim shared sensitive information about her property and ongoing divorce case with the lawyer. Promising companionship and shared goals of separation from their respective spouses, the two eventually married in January 2021.

After their marriage, the couple began residing at the victim’s residence in Lulla Nagar. Allegations arise that the lawyer exploited her family’s resources by utilizing high-end vehicles owned by them. During her pregnancy, he purportedly influenced her family into selecting an upscale hospital in Mumbai for childbirth, exploiting their connections for personal gain.

Following the birth of their daughter, the accused lawyer allegedly manipulated the victim into using social media to showcase their life, encouraging her to post photos on her Instagram and Facebook accounts. In a startling twist, it is reported that the duo established a company named with the victim’s mother providing the necessary financial backing. However, the financial dealings took a darker turn as the accused diverted funds and began using the victim’s account to cover installments for the SUV he acquired.

The situation took a turn for the worse, with the victim asserting that she was subjected to harassment and torture by her own spouse, despite financial contributions from her mother. The matter escalated in July 2023 when the complainant visited her in-laws’ residence in Wadgaon Sheri, only to discover the lawyer’s wife present at the house.

In response to the grievous allegations, Wanowrie police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused lawyer and his family members under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 34 (common intention), 377 (unnatural offenses), 498-A (cruelty by husband or relatives), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation). The case casts a spotlight on the need for increased awareness and vigilance against domestic violence and financial manipulation within relationships.
