Want to Update Your Phone and Address on Aadhaar Card? Know These UIDAI Rules First – How Often Can You Update It?
You can’t make unlimited changes to your Aadhaar—read this before updating your name, mobile number, or date of birth.
Aadhaar card is one of the most crucial identity documents for Indian citizens, used for everything from school admissions to opening a bank account. But if there’s an error in your Aadhaar details, it can create unexpected problems. Thankfully, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows you to update your Aadhaar details but within set limits.
Here’s what every Aadhaar card holder should know before making any changes:
How Many Times Can You Update Your Aadhaar?
Mobile Number: Unlimited Updates
If your registered mobile number has changed or is incorrect, you can update it any number of times. UIDAI understands that people often change their numbers, so there’s no restriction here.
Note: This can only be done at an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Centre—not online.
Name: Only Twice in a Lifetime
You are allowed to change your name up to two times in your lifetime.
Common reasons include:
- Spelling corrections
- Name changes after marriage
Required Documents: PAN card, passport, or marriage certificate as supporting proof.
Date of Birth (DOB): Only Once
You can update your date of birth only once, so make sure it’s accurate.
This is strictly monitored due to its significance in various legal and financial matters.
Required Documents: Birth certificate or school certificate.
Address: Unlimited Changes
There’s no limit to how many times you can update your residential address.
This is helpful if you move frequently or shift to a new permanent home.
Required Proofs: Rental agreement, bank statement, utility bill, or government-issued address proof.
