Birds soaring freely over Pune’s skies faced a perilous threat when one owl became entangled in a kite string and ended up dangling dangerously from electric wires. The helpless creature struggled mid-air, its wings spread but unable to free itself, until a vigilant local resident spotted the scene and acted quickly.
Amit Khairnan, while going about his routine, noticed the owl clinging precariously to an electric pole, with the thin kite string wrapped around the bird and the overhead wires. Realizing the imminent danger posed by the live electricity, he immediately contacted the local Fire Brigade for help.
Firefighters arrived promptly and confronted a delicate rescue. The owl was suspended high above the ground, tangled not just in the kite string but also around the electric cables, making any hasty move potentially fatal. The team first struggled as their ladder could not reach the bird. After a few attempts, a firefighter used a long wooden stick to carefully maneuver the wire, lowering it slightly so the owl could be safely accessed. Once close enough, they gently cut the kite string, freeing the frightened bird.
The owl, though startled, remained alive and attempted to move away cautiously. Rescue personnel ensured it wasn’t injured further before taking it to a veterinarian for a precautionary examination.
