In a dramatic turn of events, villagers in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district stumbled upon a tiger and a wild boar frantically trying to stay afloat in a well situated in a nearby field. Acting swiftly, the villagers alerted the forest department, ensuring a prompt response to the unfolding crisis.

As per reports, the incident happened at around 8:30 am in the Pipariya Harduli village of Kurai Block, part of the buffer zone of the Pench Tiger Reserve. Interestingly, this very reserve served as the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s timeless classic, The Jungle Book.

The dramatic event unfolded when the tiger cub, renowned for its innate hunting abilities, began pursuing a wild boar. However, the chase took an unexpected turn when both the animals fell into a well, unable to escape.

As the unlikely pair awaited rescue, they shared an uneasy alliance, while a crowd of stunned villagers gathered around the well, witnessing the remarkable spectacle. They immediately called the forest officials informing them about the incident.  The villagers and forest officials joined forces to save a tiger and a wild boar trapped in a well in a rural field.

After being alerted by the villagers early in the morning, the forest department’s rescue team sprang into action, arriving promptly at the scene. Using a combination of modern and traditional equipment, including a crane and a village cot (khatia), the team successfully extricated the tiger from the well, bringing the daring rescue operation to a triumphant conclusion.

As a vital sanctuary, Pench Tiger Reserve spans across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, providing a thriving ecosystem for a rich variety of plant and animal species. Notably, the reserve is home to a robust tiger population, with 44 majestic animals recorded in 2021, according to the reserve’s official website.
