Ahmedabad: Ten women returning home after Holi celebrations were trapped inside a malfunctioning lift at KB Royal residential society on Friday. They were rescued after a three-hour-long operation by the fire department.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the lift got stuck near the fourth floor due to a defect in the releasing valve. CCTV footage showed the women, aged between 30 and 40, calling for help and banging against the lift’s sheet in desperation.

Initially, the lift company’s employees attempted to resolve the issue but failed. Following this, the Ahmedabad Fire Brigade was alerted. Officials from the Chandkheda Fire Station received the rescue call at 1 PM.
“The lift was stuck between the third and fourth floors. Due to an RCC wall blocking access, rescuers had to break through it and cut the lift’s sheet to free the trapped women,” said Fire Brigade official.
After being rescued, the women expressed their gratitude to the fire department. “We were stuck for hours and had lost hope. The firemen saved us by breaking the wall and cutting the sheet. We are thankful for their efforts,” one of the rescued women said.
A video of the rescue showed onlookers cheering as the women emerged safely, reuniting with their loved ones.
