Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aug 21 : Even though the two and a half month period of monsoon has already passed and due to the scanty rainfall across the region of Marathwada except for Nanded district, the water stock situation is worsening in the 11 major water irrigation projects across the eight districts, holding only an average of 42 percent live stock in these projects.

However, State Chief Minister Eknath Shinde instructed the agricultural, revenue, and related departments to plan the administration against the background of low rainfall in the state cabinet meeting.

Till date, only 53 percent of the annual rainfall recorded in the region has been from standing Khariff crops, which may affect many areas of the region.

According to the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Corporation of the Water Resources Department, their daily statistics show that one of the biggest 102 TMC capacity Jayakwadi dams, known as the life line, is situated at Paithan in this district and currently holds 34 percent of live water.

Jayakwadi mainly depends on excess water from the upstream dams of Ahmednagar and Nashik districts, where heavy rains have not lashed in this monsoon season.

The statistics further said lower Dudhana Dam in Jalna district maintained 26.92 percent stocks, and Yeldari projects in Parbhani district had 59.97 percent stocks, Majalgaon dam in Beed is 14.58 percent, another Manjra dam in the same district is 26.10 percent, Painganga in Yevatmal district is presently 63.16 percent live stocks, Vishnupuri Dam in Nanded district is 82 percent, Mannar projects in Nanded are 50.63 percent, Nimma Terna in Osmanabad district is 29.36 percent, Sina Kolegaon in Osmanabad is only 0 percent, and Siddeshwar in Hingoli districts is 44 percent live stocks, they added.

Due to the water shortage, the district administration has supplied drinking water to 55 villages and 22 hamlets through 78 tankers in the division, including 35 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, 36 in Jalna district, and 7 tankers in other places.
