Maharashtra | January 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several regions due to a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to trigger light to moderate rainfall across parts of the state on January 28, raising concerns among farmers and residents.
According to the IMD, unseasonal rain activity is likely to continue, particularly affecting North Maharashtra and parts of Marathwada. Citizens and farmers have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Konkan Region:
The Konkan belt is expected to witness mainly cloudy skies. Partly cloudy conditions will prevail, with maximum temperatures ranging between 26°C and 28°C and minimum temperatures between 22°C and 24°C. Light morning fog is also likely in some areas.
Western Maharashtra:
Western Maharashtra will experience cloudy to partly cloudy weather. Light showers may occur at isolated locations, though no heavy rainfall is expected. In Pune, maximum temperatures are likely to range between 26°C and 29°C, while minimum temperatures may hover between 15°C and 20°C. The cold spell is gradually easing, but morning fog cannot be ruled out.
North Maharashtra:
North Maharashtra faces the highest likelihood of unseasonal rain. Districts such as Jalgaon, Nashik and Dhule may witness light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. Maximum temperatures are expected between 28°C and 32°C, while minimum temperatures may range from 15°C to 19°C. A drop of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures is also possible.
Marathwada:
Districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Parbhani may experience light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Cloudy conditions will prevail, with maximum temperatures between 29°C and 31°C and minimum temperatures between 16°C and 20°C. Farmers have been urged to protect standing crops from potential damage.
Vidarbha:
Vidarbha is likely to remain largely cloudy, with chances of light rain at isolated places. No significant rainfall activity is expected. Temperatures may range between 28°C and 32°C (maximum) and 15°C to 18°C (minimum), with morning fog possible in some areas.
Overall, while winter chill across Maharashtra is gradually weakening, the threat of unseasonal rain has created a sense of concern, especially for the agricultural sector. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
